Pulling out of car seat straps

9 replies

Laura2211 · 16/10/2021 20:26

My daughter, 2.5yrs, has recently started pulling herself out of her car seat straps. I put them on as tight as I can but car journeys are an absolute nightmare at the moment as I have to stop several times to put her back in the seat. Any tips on how I can contain her?

Which car seat do you have? Besafe have an additional top clip you can buy but I believe it’s only been tested on their seats.

Chest clip. They’re standard on North American seats and are perfectly safe when positioned correctly.

Houdini strap - brilliant thing.

I had to get a 5 point plus anti escape from Halfords for the same reason for my 18 month old.

Chest clips are not perfectly safe when positioned corrrectly, it’s illegal to sell seats with them in the EU, which means the sale of them on their own is totally unregulated and they haven’t been crash tested. They can cause really bad internal injuries in the event of a crash. The be safe clip is different I think and from the looks of it seems designed to break in the event of a crash rather than put lots of pressure on the chest. My 1 year old is a car seat escapee and the 5 point plus worked for him.

we had one of these. Sounds like it was what T0rtoise had.

One of mine started this. I shouted at her. She never did it again. It was the most awful feeling as a parent to upset my own child but she knew I meant business as i didn't ever shout, so she listened.

Can you higher the straps - that made a difference for us

@BikeRunSki yup, that's the one 👍
