How to store cool.boiled water

I store my cool.boiled water in a flask for 24 hrs at room temp. Is this safe,,?
Also wanted to ask what are peoples opinions on the perfect prep.machine as I'm considering it but have read some horror stories.

Cooled boiled water means boiled then cooled slightly behind being used (hot!) to scald formula powder and kill pathogens. Water, previously boiled, now cold, doesn't have a role to play.

Perfect prep is a lifesaver! You just need to run the cleaning cycle regularly, use the branded filters and it's great. I don't know any formula feeding parents who don't have one.

My method is I boil kettle water fresh and put a shot in the bottle ads my formula. But to speed up the process so my baby has his milk faster I have a flask of cool boiled water that I use to to make up the remaining feed. But my question is, is it safe to keep the cool boiled water in a flask at room temp for 24 hours. I do change it more often than this as I boil water for coffees regularly and will sterilise my flask and add the water in after its cooled. Its just no one does it this way so I'm worried

I had the prep.machine for my first baby. It was a life saver but after this the prep started getting getting bad rep and the midwives mentioned after if I stopped breastfeeding not to get the prep machine. But I had no issues with my daughter using it and that was the old model too. So confused. So I just stuck to this method for now.

When I had to move DS to FF because he wouldn't latch at all the midwife told me they couldn't give any advice about bottle feeding at all, they were only allowed to talk about BF.

If it makes life easier I'd just use it. I've got the old one, used over two kids and we've not had a problem at all.

I have the perfect prep. Had no issues at all, it’s amazing.

You shouldn't use fresh boiled water as its too hot and can split the proteins and make the formula slightly lumpy.

Boil the kettle, leave for 30 minutes, set a timer on your phone, and make up with half of the amount of really hot water. Swirl to dissolve and then top up with the cold, previously boiled water and it should be a drinkable temp then.

As for the cold boiled, we used to keep it in the fridge and discard after 24 hours, but tbh it'd be fine left out as there's nothing in it to grown bacteria.

Also mind the formula directions say not to repeatedly boil water. Ie, empty kettle completely between 'boils' I'm not a hot drink person but my friend maintains this is a massive thing to how tea tastes!!

I might just get the perfect prep.

@TheLovleyChebbyMcGee I try to let it cool for 5 minutes atleast. And I ditto ur friend. I once had repeated boiled water to make a coffee never again haha.

Yep the perfect prep seems to be great, I've never used one, but they sound so much easier than setting alarms and stuff.

Also, the formula tin recommends making up every feed fresh, but who has time for that? And forecasting when a baby will be hungry?! We used to make a few up at a time and that's technically against the rules too, so yes a PP may technically be against the rules, but there must be thousand of babies being fed by them, I'm sure they'd be withdrawn if they were dangerous!

My midwife is entirely against perfect prep machines but sure. We don't have one and just use the kettle and do it manually. After a number of methods to try and cut down the time for making bottles we've settled for this one...

We sterilise the bottles at night and make them up but only using half the amount of boiling water. We shake them up and cool them down quickly in the sink with cold water as a batch. Then we refrigerate them and use them within 24 hours. When we need to get a bottle, we boil the kettle and add the remaining boiled water to the formula to make up the correct amount.

For example we currently make 180ml formula bottles so we add 90ml boiled water and then 6 scoops. This usually brings it up to 120ml because of the bulk. Then when we need to, we add the boiled water up to 210ml. The formula goes into boiled water so it gets sterilised and when we add the second half of boiled water into the now cold formula it gets roughly to the right temperature. No waiting, no prep machine, no standing at the sink waiting for it to cool and everything is sterilised.

We also keep a small bottle of cool boiled water in one of his normal formula bottles in the fridge and replace it every night when doing his bottles. It's just there as a back up if he quickly needs extra and we can make up another bottle but doing it the other way around. The formula still hits boiling water and then add the cooled water on top to cool it to temperature and make up the remaining amount.
