Teething already?

My 10 week old son has in the last few days been chewing on his hands, inconsolable crying and he has this white area on his gum.

I have no idea what I’m looking for but as you can see from the picture he’s completely beaten by whatever it is that’s getting to him.

No temperature, marks, rashes. Plenty of wet and dirty nappies.

My 8 week old has those white lumps on his gum, I think it's just normal.

I have a 2 year old and trust me, you know when the teething starts!! You'll see flushed, pink/red cheeks, plenty of slobber and sometimes a teething rash.

I would make a GP appointment to rule out an infection.

The chewing hands, dribbling, etc. is just standard baby development stuff, not necessarily linked to teething. The babies in my antenatal group were apparently 'teething' for about five months without getting any teeth – it's just normal baby stuff.

If he's very upset and this is a new thing, it might be worth getting him checked for things like an ear infection. Or check he doesn't have hair wrapped around one of his fingers or toes.

Both mine had teeth at 16 weeks, so it may be teeth moving in the gums.

Yes my son has had that lump in his gum from around 7 weeks. He’s been checked over a lot recently as he’s on a prescription milk and absolutely nothing has been picked up. Doctor nor health visitor will check in the mouth for teething but dr will happily examine his throat (no idea why!! Apparently it’s a dentists job even though as of yet there are zero teeth cut!)

Just spoke to the doctor again, over the phone due to massive covid outbreak here and they have advised paracetamol suspension for upto a week and teething gel between doses to see if that helps.

Ps, checked for a hair around fingers/toes as I have crazy long hair which I’m still shedding post delivery so I am super paranoid about it. - good advice for those who wouldn’t know though!

I’ve ordered a teething glove just incase it is that but I’m doubtful due to his young age.

Thank you for the help everyone
