6 month old suddenly screaming

Hi I hope someone can help.

I have a 6 month old boy who is usually a happy and active baby. Suddenly yesterday morning he woke up at 4.30 crying which is very unusual but thought maybe he was getting a cold or something. But then yesterday he screamed all day which he had never done. I took him to a & e last night but they ruled out anything serious and sent us home. I got him to sleep easily last night in bed but then every 2 hours woke up screaming and wouldn’t sleep anywhere but on me in the rocking chair. He’s still very fussy today crying on and off and will only sleep on me. He usually sleeps well next to me in my bed.

My question is could this just be a developmental thing? Or take him back to the hospital?
Thank you x

Have you checked him all over for a hair caught around a toe or even possibly his private parts? My boy had a hair wrapped around his penis and he was distraught. Thankfully he was old enough to sort of tell me it hurt so we put him in the bath and then found the hair.

I would definitely take him back though if he still isn't right. You just don't take chances with a little baby who can't tell you what's wrong.

Have you given nurofen and anbesol liquid?
Yy to seeking medical advice again if you are worried.

Have you/them checked his groin area for a lump? Sounds like ds when his hernia swelled up.

Hi everyone thanks. We’ve been back at the hospital and he has hand foot and mouth! Hopefully will be back to normal soon 🤞
