Anyone else got a baby who only nurses lying down?

For the first couple of weeks he was bottle fed expressed breast milk because he struggled to latch at all. Then we got him to latch ok using nipple shields, but he would only nurse in the side-lying position. I thought it was something he’d grow out of, but now he’s six months old and he still needs nipple shields and still only nurses lying down.

Any ideas why? He’s always had a lot of reflux and I was told that reflux babies would prefer to feed in upright positions. I thought he might have tongue tie because the the tip of his tongue looks notched and he can’t open his mouth very wide or stick out his tongue properly, but then again the midwife said he did not have tongue tie.

My little one is pretty much the same, only 2 positions he can successfully latch in. They said he had no tongue tie at birth but since we've actually been referred by the health visitor to check for tongue tie because more and more symptoms have appeared. Take a look at this website page:
milkmatters.org.uk/2011/04/15/hidden-cause-feeding-problems/
and see if your LO has some of these symptoms and if so I'd definitely recommend getting a second opinion on the tongue tie!!
