Child biting nails - how did you stop them?

How did you get your child to stop biting their nails? My five year old is doing it constantly now. I never have to cut them!

I bit my nails as a kid. I stopped when I got my wisdom teeth and couldn't do it anymore.

I have just been through this with my child.
1 coating of Navala Stop nail varnish and she has pretty much stopped.

Ours do their finger and toenails
Tried the polish etc but it hasn't stopped them, eldest eventually stopped on her own so hoping the rest will too. DH is a nail biter too though so could go either way.
Pretty polish helps with the girls but they're not allowed it on at school.
You could try a reward system. A sticker chart for days they don't do it with small rewards along the way to a bigger one.

I bit my nails from the age of 10 until age 25. Only going to Thailand during first wave coronavirus got me to stop - I just could not fathom picking it up because someone's cough droplets got stuck inside my nail and I happened to put it in my mouth shudders

So maybe something that will put your child off

I did it as a child and managed to stop as an adult. It still comes back sometimes if I am going through a stressful situation.

I think the only thing to really do for it is repeatedly say ‘ooh don’t bite your nails you might hurt them’ every time you see it, maybe it will break the habit of it. That’s the only thing that stops me, repeatedly disturbing myself when I’m biting/about to bite. I don’t mind the horrible polish, just bite right through it!
