My ds started doing this ear piercing screech at a similar age. He's almost 10 months and still goes through phases of doing it. He's not upset either, in fact he now thinks its all very funny, especially if I do it back to him as though having a conversation .

Someone said to me that its probably because he's testing out his voice and the impact of new sounds. His hearing and everything else seems fine, he also babbles away as normal the rest of the time so I'm not really worried about it.

hope that helps

Oh, don't worry if your dd not babbling yet, my ds didn't start this til 6 or so months - just this screech until then!

I'm also first time mum and feel clueless much of the time too!

Phew its good to know other babies do this too.
she does it then giggles the lil monkey. shes also started shuffling around on her back too.
went in her room to check on her yesterday and she had turned round and her head was where her feet are supposed to be lol

heya . first timer here too! my dd 13 weeks, has started to scream! scared me to death the first time, like she was in agony, and it was just because she didnt want to take her clothes of in the HV office when being weighed. I had all the usual, ' oh dear shes hungry' comments etc! even though she'd just been fed!!
