Back to work with a baby

I have four children, youngest one is 15 months. I love my job and went back after my maternity leave part time in May. In June my husband sent me divorce papers, it all became too much for him... and withdrawn all support...we still live on family home at the moment, but he is talking about putting it on the market...so it has been very stressful recently. To top it up my baby has been unwell with colds quite a lot recently , and I was called a few times to pick baby up from the nursery on few occasions, also my older children also have been off school a few times. I have no family close by. I feel that my employer doesn’t like me taking so much time off recently, but I love my job, I don’t want to give it up completely, but in the same time i have too much on at the moment. I wonder if I have any options? Maybe someone else has been in same position.

I haven’t been in the same position, but my advice would be to (in this order):

  1. Seek legal advice regarding your divorce and the house sale
  2. Have a very frank and honest chat with your manager about your problems at home and how it is affecting your working life. Appeal for some understanding while you get through this rough patch, and emphasis how much you want to keep your job.

It sounds like you have a lot to contend with OP, I hope you’re finding some time for yourself somewhere Flowers please don’t allow your ex to ride roughshod over you while you’re feeling stressed and tired. Don’t agree to anything immediately. Good luck.

You need legal advice - your husband can’t just withdraw financial and physical support and demand you sell the house

Can you make an application for unpaid parental leave? You are entitled to up to 18 weeks for each child and it would hopefully give you some breathing space to get organised without having to give up your job security
