Cutting dairy help baby poop?

Hello mums,

My 4 months old daughter hasn't pooped for 6 days and I'm concerned because she used to poop once or twice a day! She is struggling with gas and it's very smelly!

Doctor advised to cut out dairy, do you think that would help?

Has anyone got any experience with this?

Is she breastfed? Is Dr suggesting that you cut out dairy?

You would presumably only be advised to cut out dairy if Cows Milk Allergy was suspected. If this is the only symptom and she was fine before I think it’s quite unlikely.

It is normal for breastfed babies to go through a period of not pooping much because they get very efficient at digesting and there is not much waste product left over from breast milk. As long as her poo is not hard when she does go, she should be okay.

Might be worth speaking to the health visitor.

She is breastfed yes, I should have mentioned that!

I don't think it's the dairy and she is not allergic, I have been eating dairy for all 4 months and it has never been a problem!

Health visitor told me to give her a bit of water and wait for the poop!

Thank you for your message 🙂

Hope she goes soon! My DS had a phase like this when he was about that age… I was waiting on tenterhooks.

My girls have CMPA and it doesn’t sound like yours does. Bf babies can go up to 10 days without pooing. Try warm bath, baby massage, bicycling legs and if that fails but her in your favourite outfit and take her some where in the car seat or sling with poor changing facilities and she is bound to poo.
