Breastfeeding advice

I’m 19 weeks pregnant with baby number 3. My first two (10 and 11 now) were bottle fed due to premature labours and not being able to feed. I really am hoping to breast feed this one. However , I get married when the baby will be around 6 months old. I can’t wear a bra as my dress is backless and I’m aware I cant drink arghhhh, but at least I’ll remember the day. I’m worried that I’m going to be leaking milk all day- I’m not sure how it works as I have t breastfed before and have visions of wet patches on my dress. Any advise ladies?

There are breast pads you can use, also you can feed/express before putting the dress on so they are not too full as they tend to leak more then xx

By six months my supply was very regular so I wouldn’t have leaked (as long as I had either fed my baby or expressed at the usual times).

You can have a couple of drinks and still breastfeed Smile

You might not leak by then, after about 12 weeks I never leaked at all. Still bf at 15 months.

If you do I’m sure there’s something you can do with breast pads.

And you can drink, you’d have to be absolutely smashed before it would be unsafe for baby to feed. If you’re safe to hold baby then you’re safe to feed baby (no cosleeping if you’ve had a drink though!)

Congratulations on your pregnancy :)

Oh really - I thought alcohol was a complete no no! I’m not a big drinker anyway but was quite looking forward to a little Buck’s Fizz while getting ready 😂- that’s all brilliant advice. Thank you so much. I have visions of my nips squiring milk everywhere haha - I will express before and invest in some pads xx

You can drink! If you drank enough alcohol to kill yourself your breast milk would only contain the same amount of alcohol as orange juice.

I had definitely stopped leaking by 3 months.

Doubt you'll be leaking at 6 months! But yes to the breast pads just in case. Totally fine to enjoy a drink Smile Incidentally, there is a lot of misinformation about breastfeeding online (including a lot of food dos and don'ts which are frankly bizarre in a lot of cases) - I'd really recommend having a browse of the kellymom website and the breastfeeding network (info on medicine and painkillers you can take while breastfeeding) as reliable sources of information. Good luck!

You can drink plenty. You might not leak much at all, I only did a couple of times and in the first couple of weeks. Very unlikely by 6 months.

I still leaked milk at six
Months every time though Nowhere near as much.

There are some softer pads more like finer flannel that are also washable so can be reused they are more absorbent and stay in place more I don’t know if they are still available ….

You can also get backless bras I think?

Daisy4569 · 07/10/2021 17:21

You should be fine! I get married in a couple of weeks and LO is 8 months and still breastfeeding. By 6 months feeds were less frequent and much more manageable at events. Just be prepared to make a few dress adjustments to accommodate!

Shmithecat2 · 07/10/2021 17:22

I didn't leak in nearly 4 years of bfing, and I had a drink whenever I wanted one. You'll be fine.
