Doesn’t want to go to school

My DS who started in reception in September doesn’t seem to want to go. Just had lots of tears and a full walk of ‘I want to go home’ with him very reluctantly going in.

The teachers say he is fine when there and he is ok coming out but he was only there 2 days before we got covid so had 10 days off. So not sure if he has settled in as much as others.

Any advice for people who have experienced this. What do I say and do?!

I try to just keep it light, acknowledge his feelings but stay positive about school .

I say this to myself on the way to work every day! My ds was the same when he started, school was fine he just preferred to be at home. I checked with school to make sure there were no issues there, and they said he was fine once in! No advice really, I just did what you did- don't indulge it. It got better and he has a moan some mornings but generally goes fine.

Yep there isn’t any issues! I think he just likes it at home... which I guess isn’t a bad thing! Just feel bad sending him crying but I know he is better off with making friends ect!

I know, the mum guilt is awful! It does get easier as they get used to it., which doesn't help now - but try to remember that after drop off! DS is my second and had been to nursery but still went through it, but now just goes in ( sometimes has a little moan!) It's also been a tough couple of years for him, half his lifetime has been spent in a pandemic. I hope things get easier for you both soon x
