When did your baby start mimicking sounds?

My DS is 8 months, he seems to be coming along well, is crawling, has just recently learnt to give me an object if I say "thank you" and hold my hand out, will lift his hand up to wave if you say "hello" and wave at him and tries to clap but can't quite do it.

However, every where I read says he should be mimicking sounds or at least making more noises like O and M etc... He only ever screeches though basically, he will not copy any sound I make even remotely.

I'm not actually concerned but I'm just curious when yours started? The stuff I've read always seems to be way off.

He started mimicking us at around 1 and a half years old. He was able to say mama and baba (grandma) at year 1. Is was either those words or just random mumbo jumbo. But she actually tried to talk at age 2. Hope this helped :)
