Hi everyone,
Looking for a bit of advice. My son is ten days old and we have had his second check up today and he is still loosing weight. Ever since birth he hasn’t had a solid poo! I’m now starting to wonder if he could be slightly dairy intolerant? He is on formula not breastfeed just wondered if anyone had similar? Thanks x

Babies on a milk diet don't really have solid poo
How much milk is he taking and how often?
Does he have any other symptoms that may lead you to think he has an intolerance?

You wouldn’t expect a 10 day old to have a solid poo. It’s entirely liquid until weaning starts.

Can you quantify losing weight? Is he back up to birth weight?

Are you bottle feeding responsively and offering +++ throughout the day? Any other symptoms other than weight loss?

New born should be offered milk every 3 hours. The time is measured from the start on one feed to the start of the next. So if they start feeding at 12 and finish at 12.45 you should be offering more milk at 3.

Is he ff or bf? Is he still actively loosing weight or has be just not regained his birth weight?

Just to say the liquid poo is normal :)
Even with formula my babies poo has never been solid. It's a liquid diet so you wouldn't expect solid poo.
Congratulations on your baby x

Liquid poo normal but in formula fed baby should be peanut butter like in consistency and colour . Green, foamy etc could indicate an intolerance or too little milk.
How much milk is he taking? How much did he weigh at birth? Has he been referred for a paediatric review?

Yes baby poo is very wet.
If he had cows milk allergy he would probably be bringing up a lot of milk, have a lot of wind, colic and a rash.
As long as there is no blood or mucus in his poo he’s probably fine.

Hi @Amber2802. Can you give a bit more information like:

What was his birth weight?

How much does he weigh now?

Has he had a poo at all? If so how often is he pooing?

Which formula is he on and how much is he having in 24 hours?
