I would just like to start off by saying my child is not extremely ill

me and my daughter ( 18 month old ) have had a cold the last week, cold has cleared and we're both left with a chesty cough.. my daughters sounds more mucusy than mine, I have done rapid tests on us both multiple times all negative and I have had a negative PCR test today so it's not Covid,

is this normal to have a chesty cough after a cold? Is there anything I can do to help my daughters cough

Please don’t do multiple LFT on your baby. They are only meant to be used if you don’t have symptoms because they only have about 65% accuracy rate. For your child if they have one of the 3 testable symptoms then she either needs a PCR test or if you don’t want to do one on her then she will need to isolate for 10 days.

It’s normal to have cough for a couple of weeks after a cold. If she is mucusy then it could suggest a chest infection or it could just be because little ones can’t blow their noses their snot trickles down their throats over night.

Both of mine take ages to clear a cough (and me too tbh) and I think sometimes they just take a while to go. Might be a worth a call with the Dr if you're concerned as they can turn into chest infections.

It is normal for little ones but if you're worried ask a professional. You could try a pharmacist if you can't get a hold of your GP. If she looks like she's sucking in under her ribs, wheezing, struggling to catch her breath or blue then definitely get urgent help. It's going to be a long winter isn't it?!
