How to get my dd to go to bed by herself

I have a 9 yr old daughter with mild SEN. We are still putting her to bed every night like you would a younger child. I really want to get to the point where she's putting herself to bed.

She's the youngest of 3 and there's no doubt we all baby her a bit. She is 7 years younger than her next sibling. She is quite sensitive and doesn't like to be in a room by herself.

You'd think after 3 children I would have cracked it by now. Grin

When you say putting herself to bed, do you mean brushing teeth and putting on PJs without supervision? Or actually getting into bed and tucking herself in?

Best bit of the day, having a chat and a cuddle at bedtime!

I still put mine to bed and she's 16 so I won't offer my advice! She did go through a faze of not wanting to be tucked in at around 11 but I'm glad that ended as I like that time of day best.

Do you know what, it's true. They are only this age for a short time. I love my cuddles at the end of the day and talking about the day. I have two teenagers who are actually quite affectionate but nothing compared to the cuddles and kisses of a nine year old.

Long may it continue

It may happen naturally over the next year or two anyway.
My 10 yr old has only just started not being read to at night. And I still go up and have a quick chat to him most nights.
The 12 yr old brings his phone downstairs says goodnight and disappears to read. So long as the lights are off before I go to bed, I dont participate.
