This can't be normal

DS has been potty trained for a month or so. We've had 4 issues now where he has had a poo when he has gone to bed (still in a nappy at night). But he puts his hands in it..today he went down for a nap and did a massive one and literally wiped shit everywhere.

He has just turned 3. I'm so exhausted with it.

I've not had that pleasure, sorry op. I'd be tempted to stick him back in a sleet suit and a gro-bag so that he can't get to it.

DueyCheatemAndHow · 26/09/2021 14:11

I don't think the gro bag will fit anymore

Can he tell you why he's doing it, is he doing it in his sleep?

No he is awake. He won't say why

Maybe a sensory thing?
Is he holding it to be able to do it in bed?

DueyCheatemAndHow · 26/09/2021 15:06

I wondered that. He did do it once before he was trained but we do worry he is waiting. He's been twice this morning on the loo but the one in bed was wet and horrible

Is he relatively verbal and understanding?
Could you give him a hot water bottle and have play doh time while you read to him before bed? (Warm and squishy things)
Every time he gets through the night with no mess lots of praise and a reward like playtime.

InnPain · 26/09/2021 15:12

Is he doing it in his sleep and then feeling irritated and not realising he’s putting his hands down there maybe to itch?

Newuser82 · 26/09/2021 15:21

Our boy did this when he was potty training. We ended up removing the night time nappy. Stopped straight away. It was horrible🙈

TurnUpTurnip · 26/09/2021 19:45

Had 4 children none ever did this

DueyCheatemAndHow · 26/09/2021 22:47

I've ordered some sleepsuits for him til I can work out how to solve it

I was going to suggets sleepsuits so he can't get at it. Also, my friend had to put her dd is sleepsuist on backwards as she could undo them!

It is surprisingly common. I think it must be sensory, both because it feels odd round their bottom, and alos the warm squishyness of it [yuck]

Another friend used to put parcel tape on top of the nappy all the way round at night, so that her dd couldn't remove it herself!

Oh no sorry, it is obviously your excellent parenting skills.

Technically they didn’t. There was no question mark in the title.
