Hand hold and tips for weaning toddler!

Hi ladies! I've posted a few times on other threads about trying to wean or cut down on bf, but now I really need help 🙁 DS is 21.5 months, not a good sleeper but mostly a happy, content chap and a, good eater. He still bf alot, but mostly for will only take one side and I'm sooo sore. He feeds to sleep (no judgement please). He doesn't have milk in a cup (except at nursery?!) or take a dummy, although he has a comfort teddy. I've tried gentle, gradual day weaning so far but nothing has really stuck.

OK, on to me... I've been to the Dr's this week for ongoing stomach issues. I've lost loads of weight and basically need to work towards putting it back on. I need more rest/sleep.

I know weaning isn't a magic bullet and will be a stress in itself, it's why I've kept going for so long. But I honestly feel I can't do it anymore. Please if anyone has any advice, I'm all ears!! Am I terrible mum for just wanting to stick plasters over my boobs and saying they've broke 😂 I know we'll be in for a few really tough days and long nights but hoping maybe after that it'll be done??

No advice really but just wanted to say you aren't a terrible mum at all! Nightweaned DS a bit earlier than that, and just let me husband deal with him overnight and stuck my head under a pillow. After night 2 there was a definite change and then 3-4 nights later it was pretty much done. So fingers crossed youve just got a week 🤞

Are you still feeding overnight @Fivebyfive2?

Fivebyfive2 · 25/09/2021 10:26

@DominicRaabsTravelAgent, yeah although usually just one or two very small comfort feeds. Sometimes he sleeps through but it's very hot and miss!

Ok so I'd go for the night weaning first. This will give you chance to have better sleep and hopefully help to sort out your weight.

Have a look at this method, it's very gentle.

As for the day, have you tried things like don't offer/don't refuse abs only feeding in one particular place, then never sitting there? I kept very busy with DC2 and had to try and distract her with a nice drink and snack. DC1 was easier, I fed him at set times and he just accepted it.

This article from LLL might help as well.

It's not usual for them to refuse Cow's Milk if you are BFing either or just to accept it if they know you're not there. Both of mine did this. They had a clear 2 weeks between stopping BFing and accepting Cow's milk at home.

You could try hot chocolate though or a homemade milkshake with banana and berries to see if they'll accept that?
