Formula fed poo - when does it slow down in frequency?

My little girl is nearly 5 weeks old and formula fed. From what I have read, formula fed babies tend to have less frequent bowel movements than breast fed babies, but currently she is still going at every feed. I wondered when this is likely to decrease from other people's experiences?

Formula fed babies poo more often

We moved from BF to formula when baby was c.4 weeks old (he wouldn't latch and I was struggling to express all the time), he used to poo nearly every feed on breast milk and now it can be 2-3 days for poo. From what I can understand though it's just about what is normal for your baby, the doc and HV said to us as long as poo is right consistency and colour then all ok and not to worry too much about frequency. I'm sure that's the same whether baby poos every feed or every couple of days

*Less!!

Formula fed babies poo a little less often but its not an issue if they poo at every feed, it will slow down soon

Thanks both, I was starting to worry that maybe there was an issue, but the consistency and colour is fine and other than a bit of grunting when she is going she isn't showing any discomfort.

She has some nappy rash and so I am having to do lots and lots of changes at the moment so was hoping it might slow down sooner rather than later so that her poor bum gets a rest!

Mine used to do this. Straight after a feed. He'd strain a bit to get the poo out which then made his regurgitate milk all over himself. Ahhhh fun memories.

DD used to poo mid bottle and then again at the end. I usually give her some nappy free time at the end of the day to help with the nappy rash. Definitely calms down after a couple of months though she still has the odd day when I can't believe how much can come out 🤢

I think you’ve got it the wrong way round unfortunately. Bottle fed babies poo a lot more than breast fed.

Thanks everyone, it's good to know that this isn't unusual! Fingers crossed all the changing will clear up the nappy rash, and the amount of pooing will go down in time.

Our newborn had very frequent poos (most changes) in the early weeks, nappy rash was a problem too.
We swapped her from cow & gate to hipp organic and then she started to poo less often with a better consistency and no more nappy rash.
