Worried about 8 month old development

I'm getting a bit worried about my 8 month old's physical development. He's been able to sit unaided since 6 months but can't get himself into a sitting position. He can also weight bear on his legs when you're holding his hand. He's not pulling himself up to stand.

But why I'm worried, is that he has only ever rolled once and can't push up on his arms with tummy time. He goes onto his side quite a bit and seems happy but doesn't roll. He HATES tummy time and although he can lift his head up he doesn't push up on his hands, just his elbows. When he stands I've also noticed he often scrunches in the toes of his right foot, but no issues with his right hand, he uses both.

If it's relevant he has reflux and he's also enormous, 98% for weight and height.

In other ways he seems fine. He doesn't babble much as such (some mamas, bas and guhs, says ah a lot) but is v communicative, loads of back and forth chat. Responds to his name, loves to dance, can't clap or wave yet but copies a lot with drumming etc. His fine motor skills are good too.

Am I worrying over nothing?

From what you have said he sounds completely normal to me

Not all babies like to roll. Many hate tummy time. I wouldn’t expect him to be able to get into a sitting position by himself yet. Does he sit well when you place him and able to reach round for toys in all directions ? Is he showing interest in putting his hands down to the side when sitting and trying to figure out what to do with his legs ?

Sounds normal to me too! For reference I was worried at 8 months too, my DD wasn’t even rolling, pushing up on arms etc (had awful reflux so hated tummy time). She started rolling at 8.5 months, started crawling at 10.5 months, pulling to stand/cruising after she turned 1 and walked at 15 months. She couldn’t get herself into a sitting position until she could crawl.

Some babies just take longer than others Smile

Sounds just like my 8 month old tbh except she's on the small side rather than the big side

Yes he reaches around loads when he's sitting down, he doesn't need to support himself with his hands either when he's sitting but will if he's losing his balance!

Sounds absolutely fine, op

Babies with reflux hate tummy time as it’s often uncomfortable for them.

If your concerned about development then speak to your HV but you haven’t said anything that worries me as parent.
