Hi there,

Hoping to find someone with a similar situation.

Please note this will be lengthy to give full detail.

When my son was 1 1/2 , we found a pea size lump on the left of neck. It never went away so he had an ultrasound and bloods which all came back ok. Doctor asked us to monitor it and make sure it hasn't gotten larger over time.

Here we are a year later and the lump is now double in size. He has however been sick for weeks after starting kindy with multiple illness' but has been back to well and health for about 3 weeks. The lump is still the same size and has not gone down.
The doctor checked whilst he was sick 3 weeks ago and he did say he a larger lymphnode, but nothing he was concerned about due to him being sick.

We have talked to doctor again and mentioned it's still very large, and now he is wanting to organise another ultrasound, however informed us it could take weeks to get an appointment as it usually takes a couple of weeks , but with covid the health system is a bit run down and extra precautions , it maybe longer. I don't know if I can worry myself sick any longer.

The doctor believes he is healthy boy , and other than the lump he has no other concerns! His head is at its nothing major but obviously lumps need to be checked and lumps that grow could always be a sign of cancer. But he's not showing any other signs.

We have noticed however he has been a lot more tired during the day , but we also have just had another baby and his routine has been all over the show as we adjust. He has had later bed times and also he is adjusting to now having a sibling and at times quite emotional sharing his parents with his new brother.

The doctor also has noted he has been sick for weeks on an off but he does have a cough still from being sick , however a cough can stick around for 4 weeks at times and we have not yet surpassed that length.

Any one had any similar situations and give some insight or advice and maybe even suggestions of what we could do to speed this process up.

Hi there,

My 4yo has had enlarged lymph nodes in her neck for ages. They’ve always been a bit visible as she’s pretty slender but earlier this year she was unwell and they stayed really large on one side.

We went to the GP, said to wait and see. Went back about four weeks later when they were still large and then she was sent for a scan. The doctor at the hospital said it was completely normal after the scan and that reactive lymph nodes could stay large for many months after an illness - as that’s what they’re supposed to do- so not to worry.

Hope that helps.

Even with covid paediatric ultrasounds tend to be faster so I would be surprised if you are waiting more than 4 weeks. Nothing you have said in your post rings alarm bells. Please try not to get into a worry circle over it.
You could ask that in the meantime while you are waiting for the US the bloods are repeated.

Thank you @kos88 so your daughter had more than one enlarged lymphnode as my son does to. In fact he has two which almost feels as if they maybe stuck together as they move around.

Also @Frazzle76 thank you. I guess if the doctor found anything concerning he would be doing more. He is more keeping An eye out as he knows I'm very concerned. He believes the lymphnode was large but nothing alarming to him especially as he doesn't see any other symptoms or signs of auto immune system diseases Or anything cancerous which is usually what people are mostly concerned about with lymphnodes.

Yes I think it feels like a few. Are they moveable? Hers are. They’re like big peas. When she had the ultrasound the doctor showed me them and there were a few. He said they’re doing their job and could be Enlarged for months. He also said he does loads of these scans 😬

Hello!! I’m sorry you’re worrying about this, it’s horrible :( I actually had lymphoma and I paid for all my scans privately to speed anything up so not sure if you are able to do this?

What I will say is my lymph nodes grew very quickly and it started as one lump but then by 6 weeks later I probably had about 10 more and they just kept on growing.

Xx

Hi @Napa234 , I guess the reason I am worried is because my mum had non Hodgkin lymphoma whilst I was actually pregnant with my son , so that's why I'm very wary of risen lymphnodes, the worst part is my mum felt really horrible and not normal and begged for everything to be checked , time after time she was told it wasn't anything concerning in the early stages she had bloods done and nothing came back, and once again got told she was extremely healthy and it was Because she had PTSD her body was run down , luckily she made a decision to switch doctors who looked into things alot more.

Luckily due to a few changes with my son his ultrasound has been moved forward and we already done blood test. The doctor still believes it's nothing out of the ordinary but to avoid missing anything he has booked appointments for the next four weeks to frequently check the size! This has brought me a lot more reassurance and we find out how his blood are very soon.

Our doctor is very good , he can see I'm extremely concerned so has made sure to take extra precautions to make me feel at ease and is moving a lot more faster.

I really appreciate you taking the time to
