When to call 111

Hi all

I'm a FTM of a 2 year old, up until 4:30 he has been his normal hyper self. Running about, being cheeky etc and suddenly threw up. Since 4:30 he has thrown up 5 times (at the beginning food bits and now just bits of water he's had).
Turns out my other half accidentally gave him some fridge raiders chicken 2 days out of date although opening another pack they do smell fine etc.
So the question is when do we call 111? He's never been a sicky baby so this is completely new to us. For what it's worth he is quite happy at the moment watching duggee and is chatty just can't keep anything down...
Any help would be amazing

I'm not a doctor but it sounds more like norovirus to me! It's rife at the moment, my daughter has just had it. Things to keep an eye on:

  • Are they still weeing - if not one in 12 hours possibly dehydrated, if not one in 24 hours definitely call 111/GP/ consider A&E
  • give fluids little and often and consider adding a sugary squash to give some energy
  • check lips and inside of mouth for moisture - dry lips and mouth can indicate dehydration. If they're moist, child prob isn't dehydrated.
  • wait 5/10 mins after they've been sick before giving more fluids, let's their tummy settle
  • no dairy until they're definitely better
  • keep an eye on temperature and treat with calpol

My daughter was sick 21 times in 24 hours so we ended up in A&E and this was the general advice. We were about to get IV fluids but then she suddenly started to keep some fluid down.

Whatever it is hope it passes quickly for you both!

Thanks @Cbd333 no idea where he would've picked it up from as we haven't left the house for the last couple of weeks only for me to go to the shop alone!

He's pottering about and seems happy enough, we've just given him some more water so will see what happens

Call 111 anytime you like. It's not 999
