Boob burning after feeding

My DD is 9 months old so breast feeding is well established, but for the last couple of weeks I get a real burning sensation after feeding, only in 1 side that can last for a while. It also hurts when she first latches on. The health visitor mentioned thrush but there are no other symptoms at all. Has anyone experienced this? It's the side that always feels far more full too if that makes a difference?

It does sound a bit like thrush, is her latch bad on that side?

Dragonpox · 17/09/2021 18:15

Yes it does sound like thrush. Have you checked her mouth for signs of it?

Thanks for the replies. Yes I have checked her mouth, all clear and she's happy in herself. I had got a bit lazy at making sure the latch was good, but have tried to really make sure we're using proper positions again now and still no improvement. The health visitor suggested a swab, but can they swab if there is nothing showing on either boob or baby's mouth? I also thought thrush generally affected both sides, whereas this isn't the case for me.

I had thrush for months and my baby never had any signs so could be thrush

@makkapakka212 were you diagnosed after a swab? Can it be treated over the counter or would I need to see a GP?

You would need to see GP to prescribe the medication your baby needs. You both need to be treated for thrush or you will pass it back and forth.

I have been suffering with a milk blister that is not budging. Could you have one? It feels similar to what you are describing and I can see a white spot on the nipple. I thought if you had thrush you would feel it on both sides which is why I suggest this. Hope you are ok!
