When do you work on your essays

Hiya,
I'm finding that I am always studying at stupid times of the day. I do little bits of work if the dc are playing well, or watching thomas the tank etc.

But I'm sick of working at 11pm!

When do you work on yours?

Luckily ds1 is at school and ds2 has a big big sleep at lunchtime, so most of mine is then. But I'm on borrowed time with that as he is 2.3 and I'm sure he'll start to cut it out soon - with any luck he'll have started pre-school by then so that should give me some more free time.

I waited until both of mine were at preschool and did most of it while they were there.

jofeb04 · 05/12/2007 10:20

Ummmm.... working late at night still then

Technically...now

But only because I don't have a seminar this week. Usually evenings and on Fridays when ds is in creche all day and I only have an hour of classes.

dreamteamgirl · 05/12/2007 15:59

Hi all, new to this board

I do mine after DS (2.9) has gone to bed, or on the nights he is with his Dad.
No chance or doing it during the day as I work full time

tripletsandtwins · 05/12/2007 16:01

I do mine after dcs have gone to bed, in a morning before they get up and when they are at pre-k. I try to avoid doing them late at night because I end up making so many mistakes it's not worth it .

SelfishMrsClaus · 05/12/2007 16:02

In the last few hours.

I work better under pressure funnily enough, so I tend to be the girl you ask in a lecture the day before "Have you your essay done? & I will reply "No, not yet, it's not due until tomorrow!!"

santascRUMPELedsuit · 05/12/2007 16:02

When LO is asleep in the morning and when she goes to bed early evening.

I'm about 500 words into a 2500 word essay due in on Friday

I can't get into it at all.

How long do you usually spend on essays?

I have from 9am to 2pm tomorrow to do this one, as I am still sending ds to the childminder even though I have no lecture!

harrisey · 05/12/2007 21:21

I luckily have childcare through the day, but do a LOT of work from 8-11pm once they are in bed!

SelfishMrsClaus · 05/12/2007 22:56

Well, I have made it to 1000 words now.

Hopefully tomorrow when the kids are out I will get cracking again!

How'd the exam go Harrisey?

(It's fff2 I changed for a thread re: my sister as she sometimes lurks & I didn't want her to read my meanness!!)

harrisey · 05/12/2007 23:57

Thanks for asking it went better than expected. I managed to write solid for the entire 2 hours and got down on paper a lot of stuff that I couldnt ave articualated 2 mins before the exam started. So I reckon I have passed - a B would be nice, but a pass would be fine!
Also handed in a 2500 word essay on Latin American Christianity this afternoon (managed to get under the 10% plus margin of words by 4 words!!!!!) and have another to hand in tomorrow by 4pm - it just needs references finished tomorrow morning. SO I am feeling pretty good about it - just glad it is the holidays!

SelfishMrsClaus · 06/12/2007 00:00

Fantastic!!

I've managed to do just over 1000 now & as I say, have most of tomorrow to finish it & get it handed in by Friday

Then I have from Friday to Thursday to study for my NCTJ exam!

That night I am going to breathe a huge sigh of relief & do my housework, ironing, hoover, change the beds & play with my babies...all with a clear conscience!!!!

fairylights · 12/12/2007 20:38

i have a 13 mo who i look after full time so do essay writing when he is napping and in the evenings, but am currently skiving on MN - glad to see others are too!
Does anyone else find the hardest part just STARTING the essay?? I get so overwhelmed by a blank page somehow it puts me off. Once i am going its fine but i find it sooo hard to jump the first hurdle!
I have an essay a week to hand in (doing intensive law course) so there is no respite, but hopefully i will get more into the swing of it

fairylights · 12/12/2007 20:39

that should have been
