Suncream on newborn's face?

Seems to be lots of conflicting advice about suncream and newborns - so I'm still confused about whether I should be putting suncream on my newborn's face every time we go out in the pram? I try to keep him in the shade during our walks/ errands but there isn't always shade guaranteed as it's quite open where I live, and the pram hood has some mesh side panels that I'm sure do let a fair bit of sunlight onto his face. The rest of him is usually covered or coverable with a muslin.
I do have some sun cream but havent used it as the bottle and my doctor advise not to use before 6 months, so I'm puzzled about whether these 20 minute walks with him in pram and no sun cream are ok or if I should be applying some to his face/head!

I'm assuming this is your first which makes all these things 10x harder to figure out.

If you're in the UK at the moment, having the pram hood up is good enough. As it gets colder try to let baby get some daylight on their skin ever day.

It doesn’t just fit the buggy, but also bassinet and car seat whilst on the travel system wheels

There’s nothing on the NHS website about not applying suncream to babies under 6 months, it does state to keep them out of the sun and in shade at all times though.

I had babies born in April and August so it was near impossible to keep them out of the sun constantly, especially as DD2 was the one born in April and I would never have been able to go anywhere with DD1 if we had to avoid sun at all times, she was a newborn during a heatwave.

I used a parasol, sunhat and had a pram that had a decent length hood on it and then used a bit of suncream on them if out at the hottest part of the day. The both have very fair skin like me, so 20 minutes of sun and they would have sunburn.

No need for suncream. Put a sunhat on him.

I would add that I make ginger/blonde children and following these rules none of them has ever been sunburned!

Where are you op? Non UK.
Because here in the uk it's not been particularly hot.
And yes I burn, and have a ginger ds.
But not burning on a 20 minute work to the shops in September.
