I’ve not given DS enough vitamins

You know the daily vitamins you’re meant to give children after 12 months? I keep forgetting and DS (now 16 months) has only had them once or twice a week. I feel absolutely terrible and am worried I may have jeopardized his health in some way Sad I’ve just put the box on his highchair so I don’t forget for tomorrow. But I feel so awful that I’ve let him down like this.

Children have survived for millennia without vitamins

Hercisback · 14/09/2021 22:52

I've never given them to my kids. Is this a thing?

wildthingsinthenight · 14/09/2021 22:53

If he eats a fairly balanced diet he doesn't need them. They are not compulsory so don't worry

Vitamins are for people/children who don’t have a good enough diet to meet their requirements. If you’re feeding him properly then it’s not a problem. He’s probably just weeing them away anyway.

catfunk · 14/09/2021 22:56

Assuming you feed him a decent diet he won't need supplements. Did you have supplements as a toddler ? Is he deficient in something ?

Choconuttolata · 14/09/2021 22:57

Please don't leave the box on his high chair, it is far more dangerous for him to get hold of the vitamins and take more than he needs (kid proof caps are not always kid proof IME). Just set yourself a phone alarm reminder. If he eats a varied diet he will be fine even if you have forgotten to give them regularly.

TheQueenOfDreams · 14/09/2021 22:57

I never gave mine any when they were babies or toddlers.
I only give them some now occasionally.

lannistunut · 14/09/2021 22:58

Brew don't worry too much, the main thing is his diet. Many children never have them at all.

novitamins · 14/09/2021 23:30

Oh, thanks so much for putting my mind at rest. I read they’re recommended by the NHS and panicked! He does have a balanced diet so hopefully no harm done.

They do need bit d tho, even recommended for adults to have vit d supplements because of the UK weather

Eve81 · 15/09/2021 01:38

I am exactly the same op. I keep forgetting, in fact this thread just reminded me to give them him in the morning.

Just to be very annoying, I read the back of the box last week and realised you need to put the bottle in the fridge once opened (wellbaby vitamin liquid), I had to throw the bottle away and buy a new one. I’m sure it won’t do any harm but just thought I’d mention it in case you have the same as I do.

novitamins · 15/09/2021 06:47

@Eve81 thanks, I didn’t know that! I will check the bottle this morning.

I used to forget all the time. The only thing that really matters is vitamin d, depending on if you're formula, breastfeeding.

Even if you do need to supplement, remembering once a week is totally fine!
