Child Karate Grading Costs

Hi, my 6 year old daughter has been doing karate for around a year now and loves it. Her coach has really helped her along but I'm not sure if we're being ripped off by the club.

Her grading is coming up which is being charged at £55. Is this the norm? They also insist on cash so I don't feel like it's going through the books properly.

She has also been invited to take part in a competition which is great and I'm more than happy to pay for any entry fees required. But then the competition requires a blue and red belt. I suggested the club purchase them and then the club has them for any future competitions incase the participants differ but again they would like cash.

Any advice welcome. Thanks 🙂

DS does karate, the grading fee is £25 which I think is reasonable. That includes the cost of the new belt. £55 does seem steep. We pay all fees by bank transfer.

I don’t quite understand them asking you to buy a blue and a red belt for the competition? Surely you are the belt that you are, you can’t just buy the next colour up?
