8 month old making weird noise. Development or something more?!

2/3 days ago my 8 month son started making this high pitched gasp/wheezing sound occasionally but he’s started doing it more today.

He also makes this weird hacking/throat noise. It seems to be when he’s happy/playing. He doesn’t seem to be having any issues with breathing and is still a happy chappy so that makes me think it’s just a new noise he’s started but I wouldn’t want to ignore it if it’s something serious? Help, I don’t want to look like an over cautious first time mum but I don’t want to leave it if it’s something that needs seeing Confused

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

It's difficult to tell without hearing it but see if you can find any videos of laryngomalacia. It sounds like a bit of a whoop/wheeze.

My youngest had it (and my eldest possibly did but not as obvious). It corrected over time and was really only noticeable when she was excited.

8 Months is a bit old to suddenly develop laryngomalacia. More likely to be viral bug/ croup.

We had a horrific sound about 8 months, like he was being exorcised! I put it down to him practising using his mouth to make sounds and now at 18 months, he no longer does it!

My 6 month old just got over this.

At first I panicked but he was just practicing with new sounds. Lasted about 2 weeks constantly gasping like he was shocked when playing, feeding, excited etc. Spoke with GP they laughed about it and said was completely normal. 😄 now he's back to the "grrrrrrrr" stage which I thought was well over.

Babies can make some completely bizarre noises. Usually it’s nothing more than experimenting with new found vocal abilities 😄

Just to add someone actually asked me in Tesco if my son was choking or sick, I had to explain the reason behind it. It was certainly alarming the first time you hear it 🤣
