I picked up my daughter from school today and we were playing in the park after and she was pretending to play a game then said her step dad hit her (she was saying it as if she was meaning the character in the game we were playing, I didn’t even know she knew what a step dad was) I don’t have a partner so definitely isn’t true. And she doesn’t see her dad so can’t have meant him by mistake. She’s just started reception and I’m concerned she might say this in school? Or am I over thinking it?

She’s possibly saying what another child has said to her ?

WartyToad · 10/09/2021 15:55

Do you think one of her new friends might have said this in a game?

My dd has started saying 'freak out' and 'we must mind our manners' which are new phrases she's picked up this week at school.

Does she read a lot? Jacqueline Wilson books used to be along those lines.

Oh just seen she's a bit young for what I said!

PoolNooodle · 10/09/2021 15:58

Oh yes that could make sense if it’s from school as outside of school we don’t know any children that have a step dad hence me being surprised she said it (she’s 4)

She will have heard it at school. If an adult at school overhears, just tell them you don't have a partner but it might be better to tell them first as one of her friends might actually be being hit by her step father.
