I'm a babywearing mum of 2 and wanted somewhere other than slingmeet and TBW to generally talk to other BWing parents!

Hi!

Kind of babywearer here, I use an Ergo with my almost 9 month old DD, especially on days when she hates the pushchair Gonna get round to working out how to put her on my back...

ShowOfHands · 04/12/2007 09:50

Ooh I'll pull up a comfy chair and join you. DD currently blowing raspberries up at me in an ellaroo wrap but own an embarrassing number of slings/carriers/wraps.

geekymummy · 04/12/2007 10:26

I wish I got into consistent babywearing from birth. I had a Baby Bjorn which DD liked but I found hard on my . I had a tricotti sling but didn't get the hang of it and gave up

When dd was getting more clingy about 6 months, in came the Ergo and I carry her to the local shops, etc. Sooo much easier than a buggy if it's a quick trip!

meant to say the Baby Bjor was hard on my back

mylittlepudding · 04/12/2007 13:50

I have a wilkinet, which I use on my front and back. DD is 11 months and loves it. Use the pushchair for shopping and if I'm feeling exhausted!

We also have a macpac koala but I guess that's not really babywearing!

DP never liked me using the sling so I never got to expand my collection!

kiskidee · 04/12/2007 13:52

oh, i will pull up a chair later.

berolina · 04/12/2007 13:55

Ooh, will be back later to wax lyrical about my Marsupi (sort of a mei tai with velcro).

belgo · 04/12/2007 13:57

geekymum - persevere with using the ergo on your back, I still use it for dd2 aged 2 and two months- it's very comfortable.

Practise over a bed.

The trick is to make sure that the belt is around your hips not waist, and that the shoulder straps are long enough to pull over your baby when she is on your back. And make sure you are well bent over, and that your dd is in constant contact with your back.

geekymummy · 04/12/2007 13:58

mylitttlepudding - why wouldn't your DP like you using the sling?

Just got back from shopping trip, DD was ok for 20 minutes or so, then howled until I put her in th Ergo. She's starting to hate the buggy more and more...

geekymummy · 04/12/2007 13:59

belgo - thanks for the tip!

I also have a pram.

I really like the ergo, find it very comfortable and hard wearing. Apparently though if you are of small frame they are not so comfortable.

Loopy - will you continue to carry your dd on your back and your new baby on your front when the baby is born?

I know someone who did this, she had a toddler and twins, toddler on her back, baby on her front, other baby in the pram. She now has a very bad back - the front sling she used was a tricot slen which I don't find that good for your back, and the toddler carrier she used looked like it carried on her shoulders too much rather then her hips. I'm not surprised her back is knackered!

geekymummy - I don't know what the root of it was. He wouldn't use the sling. He used to say that she looked uncomfortable - but she seemed fine to me, and is less grumbly than in the pushchair in it even now. He used to pick up on anything negative I said about it and run with that - that I would have back pain, etc.

He has taken to the macpac though. I think they are quite good for the up again, down again, stage. Ok, they are not slings, or snuggly - but they are good for active outings - my dd is 11 months and will toddle for a bit - but then it's back in.

Serious respect to carrying a toddler and a term-sized bump!!! Hopefully it'll gently induce labour for you!

belgo · 04/12/2007 15:43

my mum also didn't like me using a sling. She was convinced it caused me back pain - and the wrong sling, used badly, will be very bad for your back.

I tried out several slings, and found the most comfortable one sot be the tricotti and ergo, and didymis(sp?)

I didn't like tricot slen so much, and I can't get on with my ring sling.

bealcain · 04/12/2007 15:43

oooo i didn't think i'd find this many of you! yay

MLP - my DP hates me using slings,i was banned from buying anymore after my third, but just bought a mei tai w/out him knowing

i carry ds2 on front in either a moby or a bebina. he goes on my back in the bebina too, although i've just started wearing ds2 on ym back, he's now 2 and 2 months and quite alump although i'm saving on gym membership! i;ve just found out, literally about 5mins ago that i'm pregnant again so may have to cut down on BWing ds2. Cant wait for my MT to come, i;m so excited how sad am i? lol

i got itroduced to slings when d2 was 3months old and he's never been in pushchair since!

Loopsy - i'm getting a kindercoat for christmas 9how sad) how do you find it?

We love our Ergo! We had a bjorn, then a babasling but the ergo is best! It is such less of a mither using a sling that messing with a buggy especially when they are always wanting to get out and walk!

Where we live having a baby in a sling seems to be a complete novelty and we always get lots of fuss and attention

bealcain · 04/12/2007 15:45

x-posted sorry Belgo, my ring sling was my first ever and it def took a bit of getting used to, alothugh now i find it fab for quickly getting in and out the car into supermatrket etc. i've found now that i dont seem to be able to hold LO for very long without a sling! anyone else found that?
