19 month old doesn't join in

Hi, my 19 month old doesn't join in in classes, instead he'll be trying to open a door, playing with the bin, hitting the radiators, running around etc. He spends very little of the class doing the activities with me. Is this normal? Other children seem to spend most of the class with their parent doing the activities and a smaller part of the class exploring. Thanks, I'd be grateful for any advice!

Hi op, my 21 month old is, the same! We took him to toddler football (😂) at the weekend and he'd interact 1 on 1 with the 'coaches' when they showed him something, but generally was try3to go outside and was running around putting cones on his head 🤦‍♀️ At nursery they've said he's happiest when it's quieter, that when he gets chatty and confident, but when there's lots of kids all together he seems a bit overwhelmed. I'm putting it down to a combination of his age (I don't thet play properly with others until about 2 plus generally?) being a lock down baby and also just his personality.

It's a perfectly normal stage of development - don't worry.

My 18mo is the same. I went to a baby class last week. There was some circle singing time before the kids were let loose on a sort of soft play obstacle course sort of thing (its a baby gymnastics group). There was a little girl the same age as my son who listened and joined in beautifully whilst my son.....flung himself into the ball pool pit.
