If you did BLW at what stage did your DC begin to use a spoon effectively? My DC is 14 months and is still using hands only. Spoon is practised but food goes everywhere still. He is also not great at eating 'sloppy' foods like bolognese sauce or curry etc as he seems not to like the texture so I always make it into easy to hold finger food pieces eg meatballs or chicken tikka pieces.

It will be nice to be able to feed him absolutely anything and everything we are eating without having to make it easy to hold and I just wondered how long the next phase is usually takes?

You just been to give him what you are eating so me learns. DD1 couldn’t competently use a spoon at 13 months but DD2 has taken to 2 years as she has little practise because she hasn’t had yoghurt or similar, soup is still messy with her.

My DS is 17 mo and id say only in the last month or so has he been able to use a spoon well.
