Shopping with your pram

How does everyone cope with shopping with your pram. It's not too bad if I only need a few bits but when I need a big shop I really don't want to leave my pram at the front of the shop, or in some cases outside. So I was just thinking what does everyone else do to get around this issue?

Assuming you've walked with the pram to the supermarket, fill the basket at the bottom of it with your shopping as you go round, then take it all out at the checkout? Or I push the pram with one hand and pull one of the big baskets behind me. Can't see a way to push a pram and a trolley!
Or get a bike lock to secure the pram to something?

You can buy pram shopping baskets - you can't walk home with more than fits in/ on the pram (unless you also carry a rucksack) so its actually best to use the pram to shop rather than risk buying more than you can carry.

If you're using a car obviously leave the pram at home and carry the baby in a sling or use a car seat shopping trolley.

I put baby in a sling and used the pram wholly for shopping if I needed to get a lot

Assuming you’re walking or getting the bus, I’d use a sling. And then you can put baby in the trolley when you get there if you want to.

Alternatively get a really good bike lock for the pram.

Sling.

I use a buggy clip and attach a big shopping bag to the pram and use scan as you shop as I go around.
I put the heavy things under the pram such as milk, juice etc and also bulky things such as cereal or washing powder.
Then in the shopping bag I put the rest of my shopping, leaving fruit and veg / eggs until last so it doesn’t get squished. Then I’m all packed up and ready to walk home again.
Also by using scan as you shop, it’s quicker and if baby has a meltdown and I have to go I can quickly pay and take home whatever I’d already picked up by that point.
On particularly difficult days where baby wasn’t in the mood for shopping and I knew I had limited time, I would prioritise my list and get the important things first just in case!
Hope this helps!

I never did a big shop with the pram. Only ever a couple of bags that could go under the trolley.

I used the car for big shops, or sent DH.

If you don't have a car, I would use online shopping for the big shops and get small top ups when you have the DC. Iceland do home delivery where you can shop in store yourself and then they deliver it later that day.

Flickeringgreenlight · 06/09/2021 16:30

I don't do big shops with a pram. I have a fairly large under basket but still wouldn't be sufficient for our weekly shop! Not sure if it's an option for you, but we either have our weekly shop delivered or do it at the weekend when don't have to take the pram or DC with you (assuming someone is able to watch the baby).

CandyFIosss · 06/09/2021 16:32

Who leave their pram at the front? I’ve never seen anyone do that? I just take mine in and put the basket on the handles or get a pull along trolley like everyone else 😕 if it’s a big shop do it online? I’ve never seen anyone leave their pram unattended to do shopping

Driftingblue · 06/09/2021 16:34

Sling.

But honestly now that there is online shopping, I would just do that and only go to the store for top ups and produce.

Ozanj · 06/09/2021 16:41

If I’m walking to the supermarket I just fill the bottom basket as I shop and use self-scan. Sainsburys in the best here as I can use the app and scan and use apple pay without faffing at the till. If I’m driving my son goes into the seat on a big trolley (when he was younger his carseat went in).

AegonT · 06/09/2021 16:49

If I've walked to the shop with the pram then I use the basket under the pram so I can only buy as much as will fit in it.

We get the big shop delivered or husbands does it or we take the car and put the baby in the trolley (one with a baby seat or one you can attach the car seat to).

CandyFIosss · 06/09/2021 17:10

Also now mine is in a buggy I just fold it and put it in the trolley, how much realistically are you going to be buying if you’re not driving I’m guessing? No one leaves their pram outside of the shop

Anoisagusaris · 06/09/2021 17:15

Why would you leave the pram? If you can’t carry the stuff around the shop in a basket or under the pram, then you won’t be able to carry it home. You can’t do a big shop if you walk to the shop whether you have a pram or not.

Fupoffyagrasshole · 06/09/2021 17:39

I just take a backpack and fill that with the shopping - wheels basket behind me while doing shopping 🤷‍♀️

Skelator1 · 06/09/2021 17:41

Are you on foot always for the big shop?
If so deliveries could work in your favour.
I only done afew bits when I out with the pram
