Bought the wrong coloured trousers can't find the right ones anywhere. Now we're due a heatwave and can't get shorts either. First day forgot his water bottle. Forgot his
Sun cream today. Is there a knack to this school stuff. Nursery seemed soo much more chilled. Got to put together a roald Dahl costume next week and can't think of anything worse. Like I've not got enough to do I now have to track down a costume.

Chill. Yes it’s going to be hot tomorrow and Wednesday but by Thursday it’s going to have broken and be raining again. You really don’t need shorts for two days.

ShuddaBeenMe · 06/09/2021 18:16

Normal clothes and a big golden ticket. Instant Charlie.

Agree that it won't kill him to go in trousers but if you are really wanting some shorts, try Sainsbury's.

Try not to beat yourself up too much either, I know one Mum who missed the Nativity completely abs her DD was Mary Grin

Agree with sticking absolutely everything in your dairy and setting reminders. I'd never remember anything if I didn't do this.

Have a look at these no-sew Ronald Dahl costumes as well Smile

Please don’t stress, these things happen.

They have water in school so they won’t go thirsty if they’ve forgotten their bottle.

Also don’t worry if you can’t get shorts. I’ve spent so much time worrying about whether they’ll be too hot or too cold and they’re just fine. Your son will be ok in trousers.

Agree about the Charlie idea.

We’ve forgotten water bottles, broken shoes in the morning, once got dd dressed in uniform on Pe day and realised last minute, forgot a non uniform and had to take clothes for dd to change into. I’ve had to drop off coats, extra shoes too. These things will happen.

We leave our water bottle out each night, we do the mental checklist in the morning before leaving and the kids also know the drill, important dates (non uniform, inset days, etc) go in my calendar and phone calendar as there are lots of them, uniform is ironed and hung up each week in a separate cupboard and I have a separate school drawer for tights, socks, Pe trousers and shorts so things can be grabbed each night. I avoid packed lunch as much as possible to make life easier Smile

I’d try to get up a bit earlier if you can so it gives you time to deal with mishaps…unfortunately I start out with good intentions but end up being the parent running into school 5mins after everyone’s in Grin

Managed for some years, but now have a little whiteboard by the front door and have resorted to what could loosely be defined as drawings against each day - violin, swimsuit, PE kit - plus club, lunch info and drop off/pick up times as these change with staggered times a couple of times in a term.
Finally... it mostly works for me!

Agree with water bottle ready in fridge. Good costume advice, could stick a label to a bottle that says Formula 86 Delayed Action Mouse-Maker and provide this and a pretend candy bar for the first child that got made into a mouse in The Witches. Sticking out 'tail' on candy bar optional.
