We thought we had lucked out at the weekend when on Saturday, DS had to be woken by me at 9.15am and was like grumpy teenager who wanted more sleep, the then slept for 1.5 hours after lunch and was happy to go to bed at 7pm

The Sunday he again slept in till 9.30am and had another long nap of 1hr 45 mins which we eventually woke him from and again went to bed at 7.00pm.

He woke up at 8.00am this morning, probably woken up by our noise, but at mother and toddlers got tired and is now in bed for his lunch time snooze.

When awake he is full of beans and seems happy, but we are just getting a bit concerned in case its not a good thing, but a bad one. Is it maybe a growth spurt or something ? He is normally a good sleeper but we would only have one late morning from him at the weekend, never both days, and then wouldn't need much of a nap during the day.

has he been ill recently, a cold or something? it may just be that his body is recovering. Or, as you say, a growth spurt. I would enjoy it while it lasts, because it probably won't last{smile]

Oh believe me we are enjoying it, particularly on Sunday morning as we had been to a party the night before and enjoyed the extra recovery time

No he hasn't had any colds recently, so its not that.

my dcs sometimes sleep a lot just before they get a virus.
Chickenpox is a sleepy one.

my dd2 also used to sleep a lot following vaccinations.

You don't say how old he is. My ds loves to sleep...as a toddler (3 ish) he was still sleeping 2 hours at lunch and 12 hours at night. He's now 6 and still goes through phases of sleeping alot - on holiday(camping) he regularly slept in untill 9,30.
I would watch and wait - if he is alert and happy and full of energy when awake then I wouldn't worry too much, but if it goes on, I'm sure your GP can reassure you.

My ds sleeps late and better usuually a couple of days before getting ill. after that he makes up for it by not sleeping at all until better

If it is out of character and carries on for more than a few more days he may be feeling abit off-colour . You can only wait and see and stock up on sleep yourself - just in case.

He is 20mths. He does seem a bit listless this afternoon, but we shall wait and see
