My 17m old has been awake since 11pm

Help! He’s not a great sleeper but usually settles in bed with me. However he woke at 11pm and won’t go back to sleep. Not crying (unless left), just not sleeping. Even drive him around for an hour. Nope. Second night in a row what can I do?

You poor thing! When mine won’t sleep I usually swaddle, hold her close to my chest and bounce on an exercise ball in a dark room with heartbeat/womb noise playing on YouTube. Can you try any of those??

Ride it out and look forward to long lie in or nap tomorrow. Cancel whatever you’ve got on.
No harm in a bit of calpol even though it doesn’t make them drowsy, just if something is bothering him

Oh dear. Calpol and a warm bath works for mine. There must be something in the air because my 12 month old is refusing to sleep at night. Takes hours to get her to sleep the last couple of nights.

Possible sleep regression?

Ditto. My 21 month old was the same last night. Definitely something in the air!!

Probably not at 17m old! Hard to swaddle a walking child.

OP my 2.5 year old still does this sometimes. One night last week he was awake from 3 until 6am, slept 40 mins then was up for the day. I don’t know why, or how to stop it! It usually doesn’t happen for more than a couple of nights.
What are his daytime naps like?

Zooforhouse · 04/09/2021 18:52

Thanks all! He hardly naps at all…. 20 mins all day and in great spirits!
