My son settles better with his dad

I feel so heartbroken at the moment, my son has been playing up for the past 4-5 hours and I have tried everything in the book! As soon as my partner holds him he settles within 5 minutes. What am I doing wrong!? Does he not feel safe around me to settle or am I just not loving enough? This is both our first child so he doesn't have previous experience neither. I don't want to be a failure.

You haven't said how old your son is, and that's a key factor in this.

Kids go through phases. Just don't let it get to you and keep offering cuddles, etc... it should pass within a couple days (when they will only want you, demand you sleep 😴 n the floor next to the cot and hold their hand). Swings and roundabouts.

Absolutely normal in my experience! I've been up for hours with both of my two, handed them to DH because I'm shattered and he gets them straight off to sleep! I think sometimes it's that you've a)tried everything you do and b) get a bit worked up as the hours tick by. New person is probably calmer and that does the trick.

What you’re doing wrong is not having your dh do bedtimes! This is a win. Dont spend 4-5 hours trying to get a baby to sleep when baby just wants a five minute cuddle with daddy. In a couple of weeks he will be all about mummy again.
