Re-use Steriliser from first baby

Hi,

I'm due baby number 2 in November. We had a tommee tippee steriliser with our first, which has been in the attic for over 2 years. Will this be ok to use for 2nd child? Is there anything I should use in particular to clean it? I will descale before use.
Many thanks

I wouldn’t but I am sure some would.

bookh · 26/08/2021 15:50

Yes of course, I would and I did, albeit slightly less gap. It did however die after about three weeks.

I just rescaled it, ran it once and used it.

I never thought not to, it's a cleaning type appliance in my mind, not like reusing a dummy that's been sat for two years.

Put all the bits you can (the shelf and case etc) through the dishwasher or wash in Milton if you don’t have a dishwasher.

Descale they base unit part and give it a good clean over with a cloth and Milton.

No reason it won’t be fine

Why wouldn't you?

@Orchidflower1

I wouldn’t but I am sure some would.
Why?
Lockdownbear · 26/08/2021 15:53

I would no reason not to unless its broken.

ajja2021 · 26/08/2021 16:00

I used ours, it hasn't been in the loft though it was just in our kitchen (22 month age gap) I just descaled it regularly and kept it clean

GhostRyder · 26/08/2021 16:10

Yes as long as the bottles are new I don’t see the issue

proudwomansexmatters · 26/08/2021 16:11

Yes of course! Just clean it and be ready to go.

Or get a bucket and some Milton tablets and do it that way.

Wilmaa · 26/08/2021 16:14

Yeah just give it a good clean.
Depending on bottles your using MAM ones go in the microwave so even easier

BunnytheFriendlyDragon · 26/08/2021 16:21

I can be very particular but I would! I would give it a thorough clean, descale if necessary and maybe even Milton any lose parts then I would run it a couple of times.

sylbunny · 26/08/2021 16:25

Why wouldn't you? I reused mine and it was 3 years between and it was second hand before that!

Marni83 · 26/08/2021 16:27

If wasn’t suitable
The manufacturers would put an expiry date on it

mummabubs · 26/08/2021 16:31

Yes I would (and have done!)

rainbowrescue · 26/08/2021 16:31

Of course! Give it a wash and, if needed, a de-scale with some vinegar and then run it through and it will be, er, sterilised.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 26/08/2021 16:34

Yes of course. Give all the bits you can a wash and you'll be good to go!

Caspianberg · 26/08/2021 16:43

If course, it’s designed to clean! Just wash everything in hot soapy water first and run and empty cycle

grey12 · 26/08/2021 16:55

Does it have any rubber parts? Rubber doesn't survive very well in storage but everything else should be fine after 2 years Wink

if it does have any rubber tubing (don't know that machine....) you can ask the manufacturer and they'll probably sell parts

Yummymummy2020 · 26/08/2021 17:43

I did and didn’t give it a second thought! Not sure why this would be an issue?

LynetteScavo · 26/08/2021 19:00

Why wouldn't you? I even used mine for my 3rd baby, although it did stop working and I had to then buy a new one.

CampaignToo · 26/08/2021 19:19

It wouldn't occur to me not to. I used a steriliser from SIL for both my DC and then passed it onto DSis, who passed it on to a friend.

I mean it sterilises stuff, why wouldn't it be OK?

Orchidflower1 · 26/08/2021 21:47

I wouldn’t due to perishing of rubber parts.

caughtinanet · 26/08/2021 21:50

I didn't occur to me that you might need to buy another one. It was a while ago but I don't remember any issues with rubber.

Do you have a particular concern OP?

rainbowrescue · 26/08/2021 21:52

@Orchidflower1

I wouldn’t due to perishing of rubber parts.
There were no rubber parts on my Avent electric one nor my microwave one... 🤷🏼‍♀️
Orchidflower1 · 26/08/2021 22:00

If there are no rubber parts then I would. The op didn’t specify which model she had.
