Second thoughts about childcare?

My eight month old is due to start nursery next week.

When we looked around it seemed so lovely but when I went yesterday it didn’t seem quite as nice, somehow. I really wish I could explain exactly what it was I wasn’t sure about!

I’m feeling really concerned about him starting. He looked so small compared to the other children!

This happened to me. Go with your instinct! Personally I'd delay his start if you can and even maybe look for somewhere else.

Can you pinpoint what didn’t seem as nice? Or was it you just finding things are you are anxious (not meant in a critical way- I mean anxious about leaving him).
My Dd started nursery full time at six months old and she still loves it now, at 2. She was of course the smallest by a long me but the bond she built with the staff was amazing.
She absolutely loves it!!
It is honestly normal to be anxious and worry but your DC will really enjoy it.

(She is also still one of the smallest now out of the walkers ….despite being the oldest in the baby room…, she’s just dinky)

This happened to my OP although DS was a little older (11 mo). When childcare was something theoretical in the future the nursery looked amazing. When I looked round during his settling in session I had a massive wobble and wanted to pull him. I thought it looked big and corporate and uncaring.

The nursery manager kindly let DH go and have a look and he thought it was marvellous. I trust his opinion implicitly and low and behold, DS has been there 4 months and it’s been great.

I think for me it was just anything other than my care felt alien and wrong. I’m not saying this is definitely the case for you, but i’d really recommend a second opinion if that’s an option.

Good luck x
