Play pen.. or is there an alternative?

I have 2 boys.. 4 years and 3 months. I'm starting to think ahead to rolling starting and how to manage this.

Do I need a playpen for times DS4 may have toys with little pieces or is there another way of managing this?

I think they are a brilliant idea when you have older siblings. The playpen is a place where you can leave the baby safely whilst you cook, go to the loo etc, with no Lego or tiny toys to worry about.

Also, when the baby starts crawling, the older one can go in the playpen with his small toys, and not be disturbed.
