Baby sling good or bad?

I’m considering getting a baby sling for my little girl. She’s 7 weeks. She is a reflux/colic baby but both finally seem to be improving fingers crossed!

I’m just wondering what people’s opinions are on baby slings. I’ve had friends tell me not to as it’ll make her clingy and she’ll never sleep, never sleep through the age old rod for your own bag saying! Particularly my father in law who keeps telling me I’m already spoiling her as when her reflux was bad she wouldn’t entertain sleeping anywhere other that in my arms!

Although his comments really irritate me I couldn’t care less as I plan on continuing just wondering what others opinions are and what your experience of baby slings are! I’d plan to wear t it around the house and out and about too!

Ignore your friends and FIL. What utter nonsense. Can highly recommend the Ergobaby sling. My dd has most her naps in there and isn't at all clingy.

Sling was an absolute godsend as DS needed to be on me to sleep for the first few months. Don’t know how I would’ve coped without it. He is not ‘clingy’ and sleeps independently now.

They're so handy! Ive found them loads easier to pop on quickly to nip to the shop than getting the buggy out. Absolute godsend with our second as it meant I was hands free to play with my eldest.

Mine was a lifesaver for both my boys and I was quite sad when they got too big for it.
Neither were clingy and both sleep well, in fact one is now a teenager and it's hard to stop him sleeping 🤦‍♀️
They don't suit everyone but mine was great.

I’ve invested in a sling this morning! Thank you all for the advice and reassurance!

Get the sling.
Ignore everyone else. Your baby is comforted by being close to you and being upright will help her (&you won't be pulling your hair out)
Plus you can still get up and make a cuppa if she's sleeping.

We have a babybjorn move. I love it so much. As does my 4mo. We had a fabric wrap style one too when she was tiny which I loved as she felt really close and snuggled in. But she won't go in that one now and just fusses. She has been going in the babybjorn since newborn too.

Stupid question probably but I can still sit down with the sling on can’t I? Don’t want to squash her!

Yep. You can do just about anything, IMO. I once prepped for, hosted, and cleaned up a coffee morning with DS2 fast asleep against my chest. Used the loo many, many, many a time with a baby on my chest or back. I can hang out laundry, tidy, chase the big one round a playground... you name it. I perfected the deep squat for picking things up off the ground.

If baby was fractious I used to just stick them in there then watch some TV while gently bouncing on my exercise ball. All the baby-soothing benefits of a walk but you can keep it up forever.

Fantastic I’m looking forward to it arriving! Should be here tomorrow. Can’t wait to try it out!

bleachblondemom · 23/08/2021 10:25

Oh the amount of times I’ve had to go to the loo with DS attached to my front 😂 trying to do it all as quietly as possible so as not to wake him. It becomes quite a skill.

You can but sometimes it makes babies wake up or get moany! Ive spent more hours walking around outside with babies in slings than I care to remember! Xx
