Hi everyone
What age is the best time to start potty training? Would love some guidance on how to get started. I have a 19 month girl who wears pull-ups at the moment, but im not sure where to go from here. We do have a potty for her.

We've just started at 24 months. Using the Oh Crap book and it's going well!

My son showed no signs of being ready until 3. He then did no1 and no2 day and night all at the same time. All the gmas nagged us from him being 2.

The best time is when they're ready. This could be any time between 2 and 3.

Waiting until totally ready makes the whole process easier fir everyone.

For context my son was almost 3 and my daughter 2.5.

Is she showing any signs of actually wanting to potty train?

The right age in my experience is when the child is initiating the process, not when a book, relative or anyone else thinks it's time they trained.

Sorry to jump in, but what would people class as 'showing signs' of being ready??

My ds is 20 months, he doesn't have too many words but is good at letting us know what he wants (signs for milk, takes our hand to lead us where he wants to go etc) He sometimes 'helps' pulling his trousers up and down, can take his nappy off (eek!) and will take a cotton pad and go 'dab dab' when we change him. Also, I'm sure this is a coincidence but yesterday he farted, said 'more' then did a poo (was wearing a nappy thank god!) He used to go behind the sofa to poo but ages ago, like when he was about 14 months old, we figured that was wayyyy to young to start and he doesn't 'retreat' any more.

Any advice??

Thank you very much for your responses. We've decided to wait until she's closer to 24 months and try then. I will get the Oh Crap book as recommended. Flowers
