Hair Loss after Pregnancy

Hi Everyone,

Our little boy will be 14 weeks on Monday & for the last couple of weeks my hair has been falling out at an alarming rate, I’m literally lifting clumps out of the shower tray or hairbrush 😭😭

I believe this is a hormonal thing after pregnancy & is quite common but wondering if anyone has any tips on how to manage or can share how long it lasted for them?

I’ve just started using Alpecin Caffeine shampoo & taking hair & nails vitamins so hoping they both might help.

Many thanks!

Yes this is sadly normal. I’m on my second lockdown baby and I have weird hair lengths randomly through mine where the hair is growing back from my first😂 I’m coming up to that point where it is falling out from my latest edition and I’m really hoping it isn’t as bad this time around as I had a lot of thin spots. It didn’t fall out that long just a lot came out. I did find tying it back in a silky scruchie helped but not tightly to avoid traction. I also chilled out on both the hair washing and styling till it stopped. It’s the worst. Some people get away with losing next to no hair but sadly I’m not one of them 😂 dry shampoo is my best friend!!!

Mine was fine until dd was about 3.5 months. It's a lot of loss, I have a lot I hair so it's not really noticeable but still thinning out.
Things I've found out from research:
Boar bristle hair brush when dry
Wide tooth comb when wet
Silk pillowcase and silk hair scrunchies
These are for loss and breakage as it's important to keep the hair still on our heads healthy and smooth 😀 the best ever product I have used is luxe oil by wella, one bottle lasted me a year.

For shampoo and conditioner, I've been told to avoid anything with parabens and sulphates, so stick to the pricey stuff/stuff from salons.

I'm 8 months in and still losing it Sad I hope it ends soon but no sign of it slowing down. I have random clumps growing back now

Ask for your iron levels to be tested, especially if you're feeling very tired and worn out too

I lost loads and loads a few months after DS was born, and a friend suggested taking folic acid again as it had been prescribed to her SIL. I definitely saw a decrease in the amount coming out pretty soon afterwards (although could have been coincidence as I really do think I'd have ended up with bald patches if it wasn't coming to an end anyway!)

9mo pp and hair loss still going strong - I've got thick hair so not too much of a problem for me. The regrowth at the front is awful though.

All my arm hair fell out after both my pregnancies which was a welcome bonus.

Totally normal. Mine lasted 3/4 months. I think taking post partum vitamins helped a bit x

Thanks everyone for all your tips & info, def need to invest in some silk scrunchies!

Also nice to know I’m not alone, as if our new Momma bodies hadn’t been through enough already eh?! 🤦🏻‍♀️
