Baby weaning

Hi all, as the name states I'm a first time mom. My DS is just over 5 months and I started weaning him last Saturday so it's been a week today. He's tried baby rice, rusk and mashed banana mixed with his formula which he likes.
I started by giving him small tasters on the first 5 days at lunch time, only about a teaspoon or 2 worth, just to get him in the hang of mouth movement and swallowing. Yesterday he was showing me this wasn't enough so he probably had about 1oz (25ml) in the end. Today I tried him at breakfast time to see if he would take it a different time of day. Again he wolfed it down! And I've given him baby rice and banana at tea time today 1oz again.
He's still having his normal x4 8oz bottles aswell throughout the day.
Is this normal at this stage for him to be on this amount aswell as his bottles or am I over feeding him after 1 week? He's doing so well so far I'm really proud of him 😊 but just after assurance I'm doing right here. Thanks in advance!

I'd look up NHS advice on weaning and talk to your HV.

5 months is usually too early (unless there's a medical issue?), and baby rice isn't really recommended.

I doubt you've done any harm - don't worry! But if you want reassurance, I'd start with the experts Smile

Hey @Zarene thanks for your quick reply.
He is under a dietician she advised I start him now because he is a primary lactose intolerant baby. 4 weeks ago we did a lactose challenge and he's still got diarrhoea now!! 😟 she said startchy foods like baby rice, potato, porridge and banana should naturally thicken his stool hopefully.
I just didn't know how much and how soon to be increasing his amounts etc and there's not a fat lot of info on web as it's all promoting waiting til 6 months and advising the new BLW etc..
It's so daunting as a first time mom isn't it!
I'll try and get hold of her Monday, it's just incredibly difficult to!

My first was eating this amount at 5 months and now my second is too. She’s now a healthy two year old. Don’t worry, your baby likes his food and that’s great!
