I have 4 children, oldest has autism, during the summer I sent two of my younger children to a summer club, I didn’t send my oldest due to her autism it wouldn’t have been suitable as she requires 1:1. I was then looking into swimming lessons for my two boys as the place is a leisure centre, again it would be unsuitable for dd, I was mentioning it to someone and she said it’s unfair to send the boys to things if my daughter can’t attend and It should be all or nothing, (dd did want to go to the summer camp but she couldn’t) is it wrong to send different children to things if others can’t attend? Surely it’s fine if some things aren’t suitable?

It’s fine. My 3 DC like different things and it makes perfect sense to only send them to things that are appropriate for them.

Thank you, I was a bit surprised by the comment as it would have been irresponsible of me to send my dd to a summer club that couldn’t meet her needs.

I've been sending my boys to summer club and having a girly day with my daughter as she's too little to go. I don't see the issue!

You’ve done nothing wrong. You know your children best. They all have different wants and needs.

Definitely not unfair. My brother has autism and as a child he did loads of activities that we couldn't and vice versa. We never felt left out. If you want your child with Autism into more activities look up your local special Olympics my brother loved this.
