Nappy changing is a nightmare!

Baby is 7 months, has eczema and absolutely hates it when his nappy is being changed. He thrashes and kicks as soon as his trousers come off. He wants to scratch his legs with his finger nails and even his toe nails! I can’t seem to change him on my own, especially when he’s pooed. Any tips or tricks?

Can you get scratchsleeves? If you Google them they do clothes for eczema babies. Mine had eczema on his face really bad and the scratch sleeves helped to not break the skin.

Another option will be distraction and giving him something to play with but my experience with eczema is that distraction rarely works. How are you managing the eczema?

Long socks pulled up to his armpits. Facedown over your knees, on towel to protect your clothes, everything open and to hand, wipes, cream, nappy. Sensitive bums sometimes do better using reusable wipes and warm water , I just used old face cloths, wet and wring out before you start.

I used to place my knees either side of his hips with my legs lightly over his arms that were stretched out to the sides so he couldn’t pull them through. He had the unfortunate view of my bum and it was weird doing the nappy and everything “upside down” but it could still be done on the changing mat on the floor.
