Car seat dilemma

Hi all, we're due our baby any day now. We have just purchased a new car seat that has been highly recommended to us by family & friends. It's the Joie 360. We're planning to bring the baby home from hospital using that car seat.
A friend of ours mentioned that they won't let us leave the hospital without the car seat being present. However our joie 360 is attached to the car 😂 can't get it out and carry the baby around in it as it has no handles.
Should we buy a different one just for the first few months? Thanks

Your friend is spouting a well thought myth.

You are able to carry your child out of the hospital in your arms, a pushchair or a car seat which ever suits your needs best.

Take a buggy to the hospital to transport your baby to the car.

Winceybincey · 19/08/2021 13:10

How do those who don’t drive and need to use public transport leave the hospital? 😂 honestly, your friend although means well, is wrong. But I would advise using a pram to transport baby from hospital to car, just incase you or partner were to trip/slip.

It really depends on the hospital trust. Some will insist the baby is in a car seat/pram. Why don't you call the maternity unit.

Have you got a baby carrier? That would be fine. I remember with my daughter I wasn't allowed to carry her out in my arms, or carry her anywhere around the ward! So either carrier or pram, the staff may come out and check your car seat if they're that bothered.

I had the same issue as our hospital wouldn't allow you to carry baby out. I just took him to the car in the pram Smile

Thanks everyone. I would call the hospital & ask but I'm sure they have better things to do than answer my questions 😂. Will definitely have the pram & Sling with us just in case 😊

We just took the pram up to the ward for our second. With our first we didn't have the pram in the car and they didn't like the babies carried in arms so they sent a midwife and crib on wheels with us to the main entrance of the hospital.

She isn't all that wrong. I distinctly remember being told the same thing by a nurse when I was in hospital with my son. They have a duty of care and I think they just want to know a car seat is being used.

Of course she is wrong. It's a very common myth but fundamentally you absolutely do not need a car seat to be able to leave the hospital.

We walked out with DS and then put him into the exact same car seat as the OP has, we didn't even have a midwife come down with us to check.

PissedOffNeighbour22 · 19/08/2021 19:22

I had my baby last year and had to bring the car seat in and place her in it in front of the nurses. They were very insistent about it. Luckily it was one that fits the Pram - but we weren't allowed to bring the pram in Hmm

Dogsandbabies · 19/08/2021 19:25

I had my baby 10 days ago. I also have the joie 360. They just asked me if I have a car seat in the car and let me carry my baby out in my arms.

Welshiefluff · 19/08/2021 19:31

Take a photo of the car seat in the car to show to the hospital staff. Job done

It will be highly dependant on each NHS trust to be fair. Ask your community Midwife maybe? The ward won't mind at all if you ring them though, would only take someone 5 seconds! All the best
