Emotional son after playing out with friends .. how to handle?

Hi ladies!

Hoping you can help me. I know this is very normal, but I’m not sure how to handle the situation 🤷‍♀️.

My son is 4 has some friends on the street who come to play in our garden most days. Every day without fail when my son comes in for his tea, the other kids go off to have food, or it’s time to come in for the evening He loses his marbles. Absolute melt down, screaming crying, hysterical.

I’ve tried giving him timescales I.e you have until x time, that time is in 45 minutes, ten minutes left etc. But I still get the same reaction and it lasts until bed!

Any advice? Or is this just a stage and it will pass? X

What time is he coming in. Mine act like this when they are over tired/over stimulated.

We get this OP. My DD is 4 & has a lovely gang of mates on our estate. She’s a bit younger than her best pals in the gang. She holds it together until they go into their houses & then we get hysterics 😩 to be honest, I’ve got no clue how to stop it .. I’ve tried threats of not playing out anymore, the complete opposite of love bombing .. neither works 🥴 so I mostly just ignore it, fuss around her little sister & doing jobs. I still chat to her but I ignore the screaming! I do agree shes probably getting quite tired but she’s never in any later than 6.30pm & that’s a normal time to start winding down for a bath & bed!

I think it’s probs just an age thing & struggling with emotions/that things have to come to an end!

Off note but that sounds so nice to have a group of lil friends near by my dd would love that!

Mine was just like this at 4! His speciality was kicking off at the end of parties, especially soft play ones. Everyone else would be trooping out with party bags and I’d be crawling round trying to entice DS out while he sobbed and cried that he didn’t want to leave. It did pass.

How much sleep does he get? It sounds like he might be overtired.

TandRsMum · 19/08/2021 07:06

He’s always been an awesome sleeper! 7 until 6 like clockwork. He comes in between 5:30 and 6. He does an awful lot through the day though, he’s never still and we do a lot of walking so tiredness could definitely be a factor.

Thankful it’s not just me experiencing this! Perseverance is key by the sounds 😝 thank you for all your comments x
