Hi, my DS2 had croup about 5 weeks ago. I had no experience of this before this episode. My son had the steroid treatment, he had fevers for 7 days straight in the 39's and 38's and refused to eat, luckily he drank. He was on calpol and or ibuprofen for about a week, as anytime it wore off his temperature was up again. He had excessive drooling which did clear up after the steroid treatment. I was advised by the Dr in A&E that it peaks on day 4 then slowly starts to improve but it can take 10 days. My son was initially taken to A&E via the walk in centre when I first sought help as his oxygen levels were low and his heart rate was high before we got the steroids. It's quite a nasty thing to get but hopefully your little one will improve now he's had the steroids.
I'd be worried personally about going abroad with a poorly DS.
