Feeding at 7 months - mostly food or milk??

Sorry! May seem like a daft question but I’ve never done this before. My LB will be 7 months tomorrow and I think he’s behind in his eating and it’s my fault.

What should his diet be mostly made up of? I assumed it was mostly milk but I think I’m wrong.

What do you LOs generally eat in a day at this age?

Any advice is majorly welcome!!! X

It's still mostly milk at seven months, so you are quite right. At this age, the window of opportunity is there for them to try new textures and tastes. You are working slowly towards your child being on three meals a day, after they turn one.

Let him join in family meals and see what everyone else is eating. Children love to copy. Put some finger foods on his tray and let him enjoy playing with it and hopefully putting some in his mouth.

You sound like you know what you're doing, follow your instincts.

I could be wrong but I think diet is still mostly milk.

I offer milk feed upon waking & then an hour later breakfast - things like porridge, toast, yoghurt etc. Typically she will eat what is offered

I then offer milk before first nap of the day. About an hour or so after she wakes up from her nap I have started offering lunch - things like sandwiches, wraps, egg. Rarely gets eaten but still offer it to get into a routine and feel bad if I'm making lunch for myself!

Then milk before 2nd nap of the day. About an hour after wake up from this nap I offer dinner - basically what we eat but blended/textured. Typically she will finish what is offered.

Then I offer milk feed before bedtime & then dream feed at around 11pm.

I would add times in for my description but it varies from day to day depending on wake up time, but day typically starts between 7-8am with bedtime around 8-9pm

Mine were both on mainly milk until about 11 months old

Milk. I would told by paediatric dietitian that you go to 3 meals a day after 9 months and to add at least 2 snacks after 12 months. At 7 months you should still be giving milk feeds about an hour before food.

I follow a paediatric dietician on Instagram (she does weaning Q&A every week) and you’re right, at 7 months it’s mostly milk still! She was saying not to drop any bottles until at least 8 months plus and the food intake has increased. Once eating well (ie 3 meals) the recommended daily oz intake should be decreased to between 16-20oz. I’ve yet to wean my own baby as he was 7 weeks premature so just trying to take some tips in before I start 😬

Totally child dependent.

Some take to food quickly, some don't.

At 7 months DS was happily having 3 meals a day, whereas my best friends DD wasn't having any

And honestly, don't over think it or put much pressure on yourself

They all end up eating at some point

I think mine was mostly on milk and throwing mush on the floor twice a day
