My baby boy is 1 in a couple months and I’m making a wish list to avoid multiples.

Mine was happiest rifling through the kitchen cupboards and my handbag at that age

Otherwise, a ride on trike got lots of use and some decent garden toys - water table etc

Following!

Mine mainly runs around carrying random objects and puts them in random places. Also likes to climb on the furniture. We bought her Duplo for her birthday but I don't think she really gets it yet.

The hide and sqeak egg were very popular. Also bubbles and balls.

Anything that isn't a toy.

Stuff from the kitchen cupboards, keys, phone, a shoe etc.

In terms of presents, look forward a bit to around 18 months, toy play will increase at that point. Something to push and ride on is normally popular. Books. Basic puzzles. Balls. Bubbles. Aquadraw mat. Duplo. Cars. Playfood/kitchen. Tea set. Bath/water toys.

My son is older now but when he was that age it was anything that helped him move/walk (so a push walker thing that lit up and made noises too), and balls / ballpit

Caspianberg · 16/08/2021 15:16

Sandpit
Duplo
Wooden building blocks
Books
Stacking cups
Simple puzzle with chunky handles

Persipan · 16/08/2021 15:17

Big bag of Megablocks. (Like Duplo but chunkier). He loves those and will happily build (structurally dubious) towers for ages.

Motherofcats007 · 16/08/2021 15:17

She loves playing hide and seek with her blanket. We got her a quadro play set and she enjoys that as wel

RamblesShambles · 16/08/2021 15:17

At one mine liked shoes and the boxes toys came in.. never the toys

Amichelle84 · 16/08/2021 15:20

Our boy just turned 1 and he got so many lovely gifts.

His favourites are:
Hide and squeek eggs
Vetch taxi and bus
Some plain old round ball pit kind of balls that he throws and chases

squee123 · 16/08/2021 15:20

Random kitchen objects and balls are very popular still at 16 months. He's just starting to really get into his Triclimb and slide now. He also loves his sand and water play tables in the garden and his Little Tikes climbing frame and slide.

Tbh if possible I'd ask for money towards a pass to somewhere like a farm and just give them random objects and boxes to play with. Most the toys go largely untouched.

NigellaSeed · 16/08/2021 16:12

Open ended toys are good. (Less one thing with batteries)

Construction, wooden blocks, Duplo, etc
Cars and trains
Musical instruments
Small world - happy land etc
Animals
Dinosaurs
Role play - tea party set, etc, baby dolls.

Alot of the stuff they won't play with with purpose yet but when they're ready it will cover alot of different types of play

crazymuseummumtobe · 16/08/2021 20:16

18m here.
He loves Mega Blocks
Anything cause and effect - press a button, he's come on, or something pops up, etc
Galt Pop Up Pegs
Wooden car run

Calty123 · 16/08/2021 22:57

That’s a good amount to go on! Thank you everyone!
